BLACK COTTON šŸ˜”

What if you had to pick cotton until your hands were sore. Bending over all day in any kind of horrid weather,Ā No choice or you would be beaten.Ā Those are just some of the things that go throughĀ my mind when I see a cotton field.Ā

Our ancestors had it hardĀ no doubt about that.Ā I wanted to share some pictures I snapped in Virginia.

Freaking Cotton fields!!! That’s just crazy,Ā I always think of the cotton fieldsĀ being deeper in the southĀ butĀ here they are,Ā On the eastern shore.

A few facts about theĀ cotton field experiences that I gathered from off the internet.Ā

Picking cotton wasĀ back breaking work because you have to stay bent over at the waist dragging a sack behind you with 60 or 70 pounds of cotton in it.

The hands of a picker stay sore from sticking his fingers with the sharp tips all season.

The best cotton pickers didĀ 300 or 400 pounds a day. You were paid by the pound and the rate ranged from $1.00 to $3.00 per hundred pounds.Ā

  • I suppose you would never think of it being a romantic place to meet the opposite sex but this happened,Ā to a lot of people.Ā

Lunch wasĀ always a special time while working in the cotton fields. If you worked for a small farmer and he had only a few hands working for him his wife would cook dinner for everyone in his home.

Ā After theyĀ bought everything they needed they would go to a restaurant and eat a hamburger and drink a Coke. If they had enough money left, they would go to see a movie after.

Well, I hope you all got a feel of the cotton fieldĀ experience and learnedĀ something from this,Ā most importantlyĀ beĀ grateful for what you do have today.Ā BeĀ glad you are not forced to do something you don't want to.

UNTIL NEXT TIME ~KOKO~Ā
