BLACK COTTON 😔

What if you had to pick cotton until your hands were sore. Bending over all day in any kind of horrid weather, No choice or you would be beaten. Those are just some of the things that go through my mind when I see a cotton field.

Our ancestors had it hard no doubt about that. I wanted to share some pictures I snapped in Virginia.

Freaking Cotton fields!!! That’s just crazy, I always think of the cotton fields being deeper in the south but here they are, On the eastern shore.

#BlackHistoryMonth ❤️

A few facts about the cotton field experiences that I gathered from off the internet.

Picking cotton was back breaking work because you have to stay bent over at the waist dragging a sack behind you with 60 or 70 pounds of cotton in it.

The hands of a picker stay sore from sticking his fingers with the sharp tips all season.

The best cotton pickers did 300 or 400 pounds a day. You were paid by the pound and the rate ranged from $1.00 to $3.00 per hundred pounds.

            Fun Facts

  • I suppose you would never think of it being a romantic place to meet the opposite sex but this happened, to a lot of people.

Lunch was always a special time while working in the cotton fields. If you worked for a small farmer and he had only a few hands working for him his wife would cook dinner for everyone in his home.

After they bought everything they needed they would go to a restaurant and eat a hamburger and drink a Coke. If they had enough money left, they would go to see a movie after.

Well, I hope you all got a feel of the cotton field experience and learned something from this, most importantly be grateful for what you do have today. Be glad you are not forced to do something you don't want to.

UNTIL NEXT TIME ~KOKO~
